A lot of work has been happening behind the scenes since we secured £24.3m of government investment in March for our plans to transform Morley.
The Morley Town Deal Board, Leeds City Council and local partners have been working closely together to develop our proposals further, and we should have exciting updates to share in the weeks and months ahead.
You may have already noticed the first sign of things to come popping up in Morley!
From striking new street art to the pedestrianisation of Morley Bottoms, we have been kickstarting longer term growth plans for the town with a series of smaller projects.
Informed by your responses in last year's consultation, you can read more about how we've been using the £750,000 of government funding we secured last year here .
As work continues on developing the vision for the future of Morley, there are a number of ways you can stay informed and share your views.
Check out our new Morley Town Investment Plan webpage here , detailing how each of our seven projects will transform the area and help deliver on local priorities.
Additionally, we have launched a new Commonplace page for involving local people in developing our projects and telling you about opportunities to get involved.

Morley Bottoms was identified as a priority through our Commonplace survey last year, with people highlighting how the lack of crossings and narrow pavements make the area difficult to navigate and that local businesses could benefit from more pedestrian space.
Footpaths are being widened, creating space for people to sit and local businesses to expand and operate outdoors as restrictions lift and the town recovers from the pandemic. We’ve been able to bring forward the work through accelerated funding received from central government.
A one-way bus gate will allow busses to travel through the area while closing the road to traffic at the bottom of Queen Street. New pedestrian crossings have been added across Brunswick Street, Station Road and Chapel Hill, making it safer and easier to cross the road. Less traffic on Queen Street will help improve air quality in the area and encourage people to walk more.
It is anticipated that this work will be completed by the beginning of May, but with sufficient space being created by 12 April to allow the outdoor reopening of the bars.
With Morley securing £24.3million in investment through the Town Fund, this work marks the start of a transformational schedule of activity including work to make Morley easier to walk and cycle around.
We’re also making improvements at Scatcherd Park, creating a new children’s play area at Lewisham Park and installing artwork across the town centre. We will keep you updated on these projects in the coming weeks.

Great News! Our regeneration plan for Morley, which was informed by residents and produced by a partnership of local businesses and community representatives, has secured £24.3m in funding from the government's Towns Fund.
Developed by the Morley Town Deal Board with support from Leeds City Council, the Town Investment Plan was designed to help transform the area and deliver on local priorities identified in last year's large-scale public consultation.
Addressing areas such as jobs, skills, greenspaces, sustainable travel and bringing cherished buildings back into use, the projects to be funded as part of the Town Investment Plan are:
A sincere thank you to everyone who took part in the online survey. We had fantastic feedback, with a wide range of suggestions. Work will now begin on developing these approved projects in further detail over the next twelve months. As part of this, the Town Deal Board and the council will continue to engage with local residents and businesses to ensure the proposals meet the needs of the community.
